Project Description

Ancient Delphi was the most important oracle in the ancient Greece and pilgrims from all over the Mediterranean would come to ask for the prophecy of god Apollo. The prophecy was spoken by the god through the words of Pythia, the high priestess of his temple.

The Temple of Apollo, god of music, harmony and light, occupied the most important and prominent position in the Delphic Panhellenic Sanctuary and it dates to the 4th century BCE.

The Ancient Theatre is situated within the Temple of the Pythian Apollo. It is the largest structure in the Temple of Apollo and forms an integral part of it, directly connected to the myths and cult of the god. It hosted the singing and instrumental music contests of the Pythian Games.

The Temple of Athena Pronaia was a sanctuary at the ancient site of Delphi. Athena Pronaia, meaning ‘the one before’ the temple of Apollo, was the first one met by the visitor who came to Delphi on foot from the eastern road, hence its name.

The Archaeological Museum of Delphi is one of the principal museums of Greece and one of the most visited. The museum mainly displays statues, including the famous Charioteer of Delphi.

Arachova is a mountainous Town in the mainland Greece, and one of the most popular winter destinations. It is a tourist destination due to its location in the mountains, its traditions and its proximity to the ski center. Arachova has a panoramic view; uphill small houses and the cobbled streets show a picturesque architecture. Arachova stands on the slopes of Mount Parnassus and only 8 km from the archaeological site of Delphi. Mount Parnassus is a mountain that towers above Delphi. According to Greek mythology, this mountain was sacred to Dionysus and the Dionysian mysteries; it was also sacred to Apollo and the nymphs, and it was the home of the Muses.
